According to Freud, one of the three parts of the personality studied in psychoanalysis is applicable in this case. The part of the personality which belongs to the conscious, and which will help Fabian to partially satisfy both desires is ego. The ego is a part of the identity that considers one' self, it represents a process of conscious decision-making, and is responsible for testing reality, what is possible to what extent, and what not.
